Charge Sidephone safely

Tips to charge Sidephone safely and maintain battery health.

Updated over a week ago

Summary

Use the included USB-C charger, avoid extreme temperatures, and keep your battery between roughly 20% and 80% for better long-term battery health.

Steps

  1. Remove thick cases and keep the phone out of direct sunlight or beside hot air vents (e.g. hot car vents)

  2. Place the device on a stable, dry, fire resistant surface while charging

  3. Plug Sidephone into the provided USB-C power adapter, or an equivalently rated and certified charger

  4. Unplug at full charge (when convenient), don’t leave the phone plugged in for many hours after it reaches 100%

Considerations

  • Very cold or very hot environments: Charging may slow down or pause to protect the battery.

  • Completely drained battery: The screen may stay black for several minutes before showing a charging indicator.

  • Charging via computer USB port: Charging will be slower than with a wall adapter.

  • After a software update: The phone may get warmer than usual during the first charge cycle.

  • Third-party fast chargers: May generate more heat. We recommend using our provided charger or an equivalently certified and performant one.

  • Longevity: Recharge when the battery drops near ~20% instead of letting it reach 0%

  • Avoid using heavy apps while charging: If possible, limit intensive use during charging to reduce heat.

  • Use the original cable if available: If not, use a high-quality, undamaged USB-C cable.

When to Contact Support

Create a support ticket if Sidephone fails to charge after 30 minutes on a wall charger, becomes excessively hot, or shows a battery/temperature warning that does not clear.

What to Collect for Support

  • Charger brand and output (if known)

  • Whether you’re using the original cable

  • Room temperature during charging

  • Starting battery percentage when you began charging

  • Whether the device feels unusually hot to the touch

  • Any on-screen warning messages about temperature or charging
