Summary
Select a compatible Sidephone keypad, align the protrusions at the top of the keypad with the recess within Sidephone at a 45 degree angle and gently let the keypad drop into the keypad bay slowly until the magnets seat it firmly. Gently press a bottom-row key to confirm it is fully inserted.
Steps
Choose the keypad you want to use and inspect the metal contacts on the rear.
Make sure the contacts are clean and unobstructed. Gently blow on the contacts to remove any debris or dust that may have accumulated.
Align the clips at the top of the keypad with the corresponding slots on Sidephone.
Lower the keypad into the device in a slow, steady motion.
Allow the magnets at the bottom to pull the keypad into place.
Gently press a key on the lowest row to verify it is fully seated.
Considerations
Keypad feels loose or wobbly: Remove it and reinsert, ensuring proper alignment with the top clips.
Magnets don’t appear to engage or 'lock' the keypad in: Check that nothing is blocking the contacts or seating area. Evaluate the polarity of the magnets to see if they are 'pushing' the keypad out rather than pulling it in.
Keypad not recognized later (e.g., in Key Mapping): Reinsert the keypad, then restart the device with a keypad attached.
Swapping keypads: Always fully remove the existing keypad before inserting a different one.
Buttons feel loose or wobbly: The structure of the keypad keys make them easily repairable should one come loose or require repair over time with simple adhesives found at home, or the local department store.
Removing a keypad: To remove the keypad, place the nail of your finger at the base of the keypad and gently lift the keypad away from the magnets. Tip: Rather than 'pulling', gently bend your finger over the chassis of the phone to create a lever.
When to Contact Support
Create a support ticket if the keypad will not seat magnetically after multiple attempts, or if Sidephone consistently fails to recognize any keypad even after reinsertion and restart with a keypad installed.
